All City of Rye positions are governed by New York State Civil Service regulations. Some positions require that job applicants take a Civil Service examination. These examinations are administered by the Westchester County Department of Human Resources. In order to receive consideration for a job opening in a competitive class position, an applicant must pass the civil service examination for that position and score among the top three candidates who are interested in the position. While some classes of positions do not require that applicants take examinations, most require that applicants possess minimum job requirements.
