The Building Department administers and enforces the New York State Fire Prevention and Uniform Building Code as well as chapters in the City of Rye Code relating to building new construction, renovations, additions and alterations, certifications of compliance and occupancy, property maintenance, construction within FEMA-designated flood zones, signage, fences and zoning.  The Department provides the following services:

 

Building Inspector is responsible for the effective, timely, and consistent enforcement of local and state law, and the education of those whom they affect.

Issues:

  • Building, Demolition and Floodplain Management Permits
  • Notices of violation of many City codes
  • Appearance Tickets, when applicable, for violation to the above codes.

Interprets:

  • Building and Zoning codes
  • Flood insurance rate maps
  • Inspects work being conducted in conjunction with Building Permits

Provides:

  • Direction to residents, design professionals, real estate
  • Professionals for compliance with requisite laws and codes
  • Information regarding local landmarks
  • Regulates excavation, zoning, signs, private recreational facilities and fences per City Code. Enforces the New York State Building Code
