CONSTRUCTION ON THEODORE FREMD AVENUE WALL PROJECT TO CONTINUE
RYE, NY (May 28, 2026) Construction on the Theodore Fremd Avenue wall project is slated to continue in the coming days, with a lane closure on Theodore Fremd Avenue scheduled to begin on Monday, June 8.
This project will replace retaining wall on Blind Brook adjacent to Theodore Fremd Avenue. The wall was significantly damaged in 2007 flooding and requires replacement to protect the adjacent roadway and City parking area.
Construction will require temporary traffic modifications in the area for approximately two months:
· Beginning on June 8, Southbound traffic on Theodore Fremd Avenue will be closed between Purchase Street and Elm Place.
· Northbound traffic on Theodore Fremd Avenue will remain open.
· Detours: Southbound motorists on Purchase Street will be directed to:
o Elm Place, or
o further south via Locust Avenue, Orchard Avenue, or Central Avenue
· Car Park 2 Access: Entry and exit to Car Park 2 will remain open; however:
o All exiting vehicles must turn right (northbound) onto Theodore Fremd Avenue
Drivers should expect minor delays and are encouraged to plan alternate routes where possible.
“While we recognize that projects like this can create temporary inconvenience, this work is an important investment in the City’s infrastructure,” said City Manager Brian Shea. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and motorists as construction moves forward.”
Additional updates will be shared via the City website and official communication channels as the start date approaches.
