CITY OF RYE PREPARES FOR WINTER STORM BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM SUNDAY TO 6 PM EST MONDAY

RYE, NY (February 21, 2026) The City of Rye is preparing for a significant winter storm expected to impact the
region beginning Sunday, February 22, and continuing into Monday, February 23. The National Weather Service
has issued a Blizzard Warning for portions of southeast New York - including Westchester County - due to
forecasted snow accumulations, wind gusting as high as 60mph, and hazardous travel conditions.

“We are closely monitoring National Weather Service forecasts and have activated enhanced staffing across our
essential departments. We are ready,” said City Manager Brian Shea. “We strongly encourage residents to make
the necessary preparations for themselves and their families now, as this could be a significant storm.”
Senior staff will be working around the clock through the completion of the storm to coordinate response efforts.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• Winter Storm Watch in Effect: Sunday early afternoon through Monday evening.
• Snowfall Forecast: Snow accumulations could range from 15 to 20 inches, with higher amounts possible.
• Hazardous Conditions: Blizzard conditions including snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and
blowing/drifting snow are possible. Delays to travel, transit, and services should be anticipated. Travel
should be restricted to emergencies only.

CITY SERVICES

• City Buildings: To encourage residents to stay off the roads, City buildings, including City Hall and Rye
Recreation, will be closed to the public on Monday, February 23rd.
• Recreation Programs Suspended: All recreation programming is suspended on Sunday, February 22 and
Monday, February 23.
