What’s Changed:

The Moderate Risk of excessive rainfall (40-60% probability of flash flooding within a 25 mile radius of a location) has been expanded to include the entire NYC/NJ metro area and surroundings. Elsewhere across the local Tri-State there is a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall (25 to 40%  probability of flash flooding within a 25 mile radius of a location) 

There is also potential for isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds gusts of at least 58 mph for much of the region. (5-15% probability within a 25 mile radius of a location, highest for NE NJ and NYC).

Overview: A slow moving frontal system will bring the likelihood of scattered to numerous flash floods this afternoon into evening across portions of the local Tri-State area. This flooding could be locally severe and life threatening.

Rainfall rates: As high as 2-3”/hr are likely. Localized areas could see repeating thunderstorm activity which could drop 5-6” of rain in as little as 3 hours.

If you live in a flood-prone area, please move your vehicles to higher ground. The Police Department has deployed additional resources to manage increased call volume related to the weather.
