YOUTH PROGRAMS
Sport Jamboree
Join this fun program designed for children in Kindergarten. Activities will include
soccer, tee-ball and other various games. Registration in advance only. Limited
enrollment!! Children may only register for one class per week.
NFL Flag
NFL Flag offers a well-organized, supervised fun for boys and girls grades 1 - 6. It
introduces youngsters to the great game of football, and foster the development of
teamwork and physical fitness by everyone involved.
Next Generation
All those in grades 5 through 7 are invited to join this fun program on Friday
evenings. Sports, games and trips will be scheduled during the 6 week program. Stop by the
office for a schedule of events. Times may vary.
Tae Kwon Do Karate
Learn the art of self defense through this non-contact Karate class for those 6 years
old and older of all abilities. Karate teaches self- discipline, self- control, balance,
focus, self- awareness and improves balance. Adults are welcomed. Master Rico Dos Anjos
(5th Dan) and Assistant Instructor Russ Fulmore (4th Dan) teach this program. This program
runs from September to June. One may join at any time.
Junior Wrestling Program
Come join Rye Recreation's junior wrestling clinic. Learn wrestling techniques and
skills taught by Rye High School Wrestling coaches John Borchert and Rob Castagna.
Wrestling will be controlled an safety will be stressed at all times. Wear loose,
comfortable clothing.
Introduction to Lacrosse (NEW)
This new program is to introduce the basic skills of throwing, catching and cradling.
Boys and girls in grades 4 - 6 are encouraged to join this new program. All participants
must provide their own stick. The instructor is Mike Anfuso, Rye High School's Boys
Lacrosse Coach.
Gear up for In-Line Hockey
The classes will teach fundamentals of hockey and emphasize skills such as stick
handling, passing, edging, maneuverability, scoring, balance and most importantly, team
play. Safety guidelines are always stressed. Full safety gear is required e.g. hockey
gloves, leg, elbow & shoulder pads, helmets with a cage, & a mouth piece. All
participants regardless of level will enjoy the fastest growing sport of the 90's. Classes
are held at the multi-purpose area near the tennis courts at Recreation Park. Games may be
arranged held with other communities.
Skating
Come skate at Playland's Ice Casino with Rye Recreation. Fee includes 8 weeks of
lessons, rentals, snacks, transportation and supervision. Transportation available from
all 3 public elementary schools beginning at 3:10 p.m. Skating lesson will be taught by
Playland staff. Both skating and hockey skating lessons will be offered. Helmets are
required for all skaters. Program available without transportation.
Kindergarten Skating Program
Bring your Kindergarten child to Playland for lessons, snack and free skating time.
Adults maybe asked to assist with supervision. All students are required to wear a
helmet. Enrollment is limited.
Youth Basketball Programs
Hoop Start USA
Its never to early to learn the fundamentals of basketball. Children in grades 1 - 4
will learn basics of the game with Hoop Start Staff. Every Hoop Start members will receive
an Official Hoop Start USA uniform, which includes a pro style reversible jersey, long
length mesh shorts and the official Hoop Start USA basketball. Program meets at Midland
School Gym. Program limited to 30 participants in each session.
Boys Basketball Program
Rookie Ball (NEW)
Looking for 3rd and 4th graders to join the Rye Recreation Basketball League. Major
emphasis will be on FUNdamentals, along with learning the rules and concepts of the game.
Program site: Milton School. Dates and times vary.
March Madness
Calling all 5th & 6th graders interested in playing some hoops. This program will
emphasize team play and the development of skills. Program site: Osborn and Milton
Schools. Days and times will vary.
Showtime (new)
This new basketball league is for 7th & 8th graders (children on the MS school team
are not eligible to participate). So find your basketball sneakers and bring your games.
Program site: Osborn School. Days and times will vary. Registration deadline: December
23rd.
Girls Basketball Program
Come join in on all the fun in Rye Recreation's girls basketball program. Instruction is emphasized and team play is encouraged. Al Foust will be returning to lead girls in this inter community league. All girls registered make teams.
