Subject: News of the Week for 06/26/1999.

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to "The Rye Police Department News of the Week". This is a news and information program brought to you by Police Commissioner William A. Pease and the City of Rye Police Department. I'm your host Officer Gary L. Olivier. These are the news and information stories leading up to the 26th of June. Our first story is as follows.......

The decomposed remains of what police believe to be a male where found by Westchester County Police on the 24th of June. A resident complained of a foul odor emanating from the dumpster area in the rear of the Playland parking lot. County police responded and discovered the badly decomposed body of what they believed to be a male lying nude behind the dumpsters. The body was taken to the Westchester County Medical Examiners office for tests to determine the cause of death and to positively identify the remains. Rye Detectives are also investigating whether or not the remains are those of a Mr. Alfred Buckley who was reported missing to Rye police on the eighth day of June. Upon completion of the forensic tests I will advise you of the outcome. Now, that's all I can comment on at this time. As some of you may or may not know, an incident of this nature is treated as a homicide until completion of the investigation has proved otherwise.

A Mount Vernon man who was arrested last month after an alleged incident at the Rye A & P was picked up in Harrison on a bench warrant from the Rye City Court. Keane Smith of 216 South Columbus Avenue was arrested by Harrison police on the 10th. He was held and then turned over to Detective Jake Chittenden for processing...............................................

While we're on the subject of warrants a New Rochelle man was arrested by Portchester Police in front of the Sunoco gas station on Boston Post Road in Portchester. Dominick Triano was arrested after being stopped for traffic violations. Triano was held by Portchester and was turned over to Detective Jake Chittenden for processing. The defendant has upcoming court appearances.............

On a nicer note. The Rye Police Departments Detective Division will be hosting another vin etching program at the Locust Avenue fire house on the 31st of July, from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. There is no cost to you. The vin etching is one more thing you can do to protect yourself from car thieves. So come down and take advantage of this free program. We look forward to seeing you............................

Next item up is from Commissioner Pease's office. On June 8th 1999 four members of the Rye Police department were honored for their diligence in enforcing the vehicle and traffic laws. Officers Scott Craig, John Hannah, Robert Vogel and Anthony Rosace were recognized for having the most impact on improving traffic safety during 1998. Their education and enforcement activities were recognized by the Police Commissioner at a luncheon held in their honor. Congratulations to the four officers for helping to make our streets safer............................................

A Stuyvesant Avenue woman reported to police that an unknown person had fraudulently cashed a check in the complainants name for 36,650 dollars. The person responsible for the crime is believed to be a Bronx resident. That's all I can comment on at this time. I will update you in the future if any new details about this case come up..........................

A Purchase Street resident reported to police that his 1996 Acura bearing NY registration M850NH was stolen sometime over night on the 16th. The car was parked and locked in front of the victims residence when the theft occurred. This is a reminder to our residents to get down to that vin etching on the 31st. Everything that we can do to make it tougher for the creeps to rip us off or to fence the stolen property helps..........................................

A pair of golfers spent sometime in the Rye lockup on the 17th. Bernard Camarada and Dax Colasacco both of Mamaroneck were arrested by Rye police at the end of Soundview Avenue after an employee of Rye Golf Club signed a complaint of trespass against them. According to police reports the duo had allegedly entered the grounds of the golf club and proceeded to play the course without paying. Officers John Wood and Anthony Rosace took the two into custody and then processed and released each on 250.00 bail. They were charged with trespass and theft of services. Each have upcoming court appearances.........

F-o-u-r !!!! or should I say T-w-o !!!!!!!

A 1985 Toyota that was reported stolen by a Rye resident back on the 5th was recovered in Mount Vernon by Mt. Vernon PD on the 17th of June. The car was found by officers on patrol. Upon running the vehicles license plate it was reveled that the car had been stolen from a Greenhaven resident. Rye police were then notified of the recovery. The vehicles condition is unknown at this time..............

A Rye man was arrested on the 20th for driving charges. Miguel Donofrio of Milton Road was stopped for allegedly having no license plate on the front of his car. Upon speaking to the driver, Officer Jeffery Golanec ascertained that he did not possess a drivers license as well as his vehicles registration being suspended. The suspect was placed under arrest and his vehicle towed. He was processed at police HQ and later released after being served 4 summons. He has upcoming court appearances..................................

A band member who played a gig at The High Street Road House was singing the blues at the end of the night. Upon returning to his vehicle that was parked outside of the bar he observed 2 persons kicking in the rear quarter panel. The two persons fled in a blue Honda. The complainant knows who the perps are that did the damage and will seek restitution from them................................

The state police called for the assistance of Rye Police units in the early morning hours of the 19th of June. According to witnesses two male Hispanics were spotted running from an overturned car on the I/95 North bound exit 19 ramp. The squad four boys searched the area to no avail. About a half hour later Officer Tim Chittenden found the two males at a pay phone in front of the YMCA. The males appeared to be covered in blood. By request of the state police the two were taken to United Hospital in Portchester and remained there until the arrival of state police units who took over the investigation from there............................

A teacher at The Rye Middle School was ripped off to the tune of 61.00 last month. An unknown person or persons took the cash from her wallet while it was left unattended in the victims office. The theft occurred while school was still in session....................................................

Officer Golanec bagged another "alleged" traffic violator on the 21st. Thomas Littleton was stopped on the Playland Parkway for alleged traffic violations by the officer at about 5 P.M. Upon speaking to the defendant Golanec ascertained that he did not posses a valid drivers license. Littleton was issued summons at the scene and had his 1986 Volvo towed to the police impound yard.

Too-bad, So-sad, Bye-Bye...........

Onward..................................................

Two low-lives helped themselves to a woman's wallet containing cash and credit cards in the Chicos store located at 16 Purchase Street back on the 21st. The wallet was in a handbag located in the back storage room at the time of the theft.

Rye detectives have a description of two possible suspects and are currently investigating this and other larcenies........

A Fairlawn Court man was the victim of a larceny totaling over 3000.00 back on the 21st. Pneumatic nailers, compressors, hoses, hammer drills, routers, a belt sander and a cordless Hitachi drill where stolen sometime between April of this year and the 21st when it was reported to Rye Police. The equipment was stolen from a locked residence. The victim has serial numbers of the stolen equipment which will make it harder to fence the goods or bring it in for repair. Rye police are investigating.............................

Police are investigating the theft of a RCA DSS receiver dish which occurred outside of Esco TV located on the Boston Post Road. According to witnesses two black males allegedly loaded the boxed disc into a waiting 1989 Plymouth and fled south bound on the Boston Post Road. A license plate number of NY Z770LA was observed on the vehicle. The disc is valued at 350.00 dollars...........................

A boaters day way ruined on the 22nd. Apparently the vessel had struck a rock near the entrance to Portchester Harbor and was taking on water. Passerby's called Rye Police who in turn notified Greenwich, Mamaroneck and Portchester units who responded to the area. Greenwich marine units located the sinking vessel and removed all persons on board without incident. The victims were transported to Portchester harbor.

Rye did not have a boat in service that day and in turn did not respond................

A Fairfield Ct. man was arrested by Rye Police on the 28th. Joseph Huleux was stopped by Officer Scott Craig for alleged traffic violations on Midland Avenue at about 330 A.M. Upon speaking to the defendant Officer Craig noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. After further investigation, Huleux was placed under arrest and transported to rye H.Q. were he was processed and released on 100.00 bail. He has upcoming court appearances...........................................

The squad 5 boys spent a little time north of the Rye border on the 26th. Portchester Police requested back up from Rye units to help quell a disturbance at The Diamond Strip Club located on Midland Avenue in Portchester. Upon their arrival the responding units found that the disturbance was already quelled. I would like to put to rest the rumors that the responding Rye police officers could not be located for several hours after their arrival at the club. This rumor is total unsubstantiated and the Rye units went back into service immediately. (You know I'm joking.)

Another boating story. Employee's of The Shenorock Club located on Stuyvesant Avenue reported to police that a blue boat was in their beach area harassing swimmers on the 26th. Bay Constable Bob Chittenden responded and upon his investigation arrested the operator of the vessel for allegedly "Boating while intoxicated." The operator a Gonzolas Marraquin was transported to The Rye Marina and then to police HQ where he was processed and later released pending future court dates. This is no joke ladies and gentlemen, this boating while intoxicated is a serious offense in which you can be fined, get jail time or both. Like when we operate our vehicles, lets use our heads when boating.............

The BB gun vandal struck again on the 26th. A Packard Court resident reported that a visitor to his home had his window of his vehicle shot out at about 11 P.M. Police will give the area extra patrol as time and manpower allow.........................

I have an exposure case to tell you about. A female was walking down Theodore Fremd Avenue near Boston Market when a white male, bald, about 25 years old pulled up to her in a late model green Dodge truck. He proceeded to ask her directions. When the woman responded to the males request she noticed he was naked from the waist down and was stroking himself. She immediately fled away from the truck and called police. Perfect thing to do. She got herself away from the situation and called us immediately. Unfortunately the exposure and his truck were gone when the Rye units arrived. Keep your eyes open for this freak when you are out there walking people..............

Pease and the City of Rye Police Department, this is Gary L. Olivier saying take care, be safe and we'll see you next time...............
