Subject: News of the Week for April 23rd, 2000

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to "Rye Police News". This is a news and  information program brought to you by Police Commissioner Joseph A.  Verille and the City of Rye Police Department. I'm your host Officer Gary  L. Olivier.   These are the news and information stories leading up to the 23rd of April.

I’m your host Officer Gary L. Olivier and our first story is as follows……………….

The squad four boys got into a hot one in the early morning hours of the 24th of March.

Two suspects hit the Hook Road are entering several cars allegedly stealing property from them. Now wait, it gets better. Not only did the duo take the items from the unlocked vehicles, they also took a Chevy Tahoe belonging to a Hook Road resident. Upon hearing the vehicle start, the resident immediately called Rye Police who sent units to the area. While heading to the area Officer James Boland spotted the stolen Tahoe heading toward I/95 on The Playland Parkway. Boland radioed HQ and Officer Tim Chittenden responded and along with Boland, attempted to stop the vehicle while heading down 95. During this time the suspect driving the stolen vehicle allegedly attempted to run Officer Boland off the road. The suspects lost control of the vehicle at exit 18 in The Village Of Mamaroneck. Boland apprehended one suspect at the vehicle while PO Chittenden gave chase on foot. Chittenden pursued the suspect into the waiting arms of Mamaroneck Police Office Anthony Casinelli who along with a host of other officers apprehended the suspect. The suspect who was driving the Tahoe was identified as Derick Harper of White Plains and his accomplice in the car was charged as a juvenile. The juvenile was remanded to custody and Harper was held at the county jail. That’s all I can comment on at this time. As I can release more developments about this case, I will.

Great job by The squad Four boys and the other responding police agencies……

Food for thought. The cars that were broken into that night were unlocked and the owners of The Chevy Tahoe had left the keys in the car. Let’s not make it easy for these mutts to rip us off………..

The bicycle stories aren’t over yet…………………………………….

Dogwood Lane on the 9th. A burgundy colored "Trek" bicycle was stolen from the complainant's garage sometime overnight. The creeps that stole this one went through a lot of trouble to get it. Apparently they forced a window in the detached garage and removed the bicycle though it. This one has been logged with the rest of them. It’s the time of year we get hardest with these types of larceny’s. Remember to do everything possible to prevent crime and if a least make it tough for the lowlifes to rip us off………………………………………….

A CD player and other items were stolen from a vehicle parked overnight at The Methodist Church Parking Lot. Access was gained to the car by the unknown creep or creeps smashing a window. It’s logged with patrol and will be followed up on…………………………………..

A Kirby Lane resident and a Forest Avenue resident both reported to police that teak benches were stolen from the yards of their homes overnight. The both incidents happened on the 9th of April……………………………………………………………………………………..

Lastly. I guess the same idiots with nothing to do decided to continue the ongoing string of criminal mischief that has been occurring lately. A boat windshield was shattered by pieces of cinder blocks at a private boatyard on Milton Road. The damage is valued at 400.00 and police will give the area extra patrol as time and manpower allow…………………………………….

Well folks that’s all there is, there is no more. Let’s work together to make Rye a safe place to live and work. Keep an eye out for one another and report any suspicious activity you see to The Rye Police. For Police Commissioner Joseph A. Verille and The City of Rye Police Department, This is Gary l. Olivier saying, take care, be safe and we’ll see you next time…………………………….
