Subject: News of the Week for February 24, 2003

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to "Rye Police News". This is a news and information program brought to you by Police Commissioner William R. Connors and the city of Rye Police department. These are the news and information stories leading up to the 24th of February. I'm your host, Officer Gary L. Olivier. Our first story is as follows:

Rye Police units responded to a mutual aid call from the MT. Pleasant Police Department on the morning of the 16th. MT Pleasant requested assistance for a shooting that occurred at Tino's restaurant. Rye Units assisted the MT Pleasant units at the scene. An arrest was made the next day. Good work by the Mt Pleasant police and the other police agencies that responded to assist.

An unknown idiot or idiots with nothing better to do decided to vandalize several vehicles in the Station Plaza lot last week. Tires were slashed and vehicles sustained other damage during the day on the 21st. Patrol units responded to the area and logged the reports. A total of 700.00 in damage has been reported. The area has been given extra patrol.

A Dale Street resident reported to police that an unknown person has been making fraudulent purchases on one of her credit cards. The amount of the purchases is 2500.00. Rye Detectives have it and will follow up.

A Milton Road resident reported to police that 2000.00 was stolen from her bank account sometime around the 20th. Police logged the report and the detectives will follow up on this.

A Yonkers man will have some explaining to do in Rye City Court. Elias Shleiwet was arrested by Rye Patrol units on the 20th for allegedly assaulting a co worker at the Rye Getty station. According to reports, the two men began arguing while working in the mechanic bays. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Schleiwet was processed at Rye HQ and released on bail.

A Parkway Drive resident reported to police that two vehicles parked in his driveway were broken into and vandalized. This occurred overnight on the 16th. Apparently the unknown low life's who did this attempted to steal one or both of the vehicles but, were unsuccessful. A next door neighbor reported to police that his vehicle had been entered too. Patrol units logged a report and will give the area extra patrol as time and manpower allow.

The A+P super market located on Boston Post Road was the scene of a theft last week. Apparently two black males entered the store and attempted to by several cases of beer with out proper ID. The clerk denied the sale but when the clerk turned away from the duo, they fled out of the store. Patrol units logged a report and checked the area to no avail. (They must have been thirsty).

Apparently some bottom feeder targeted a resident of Rye manor last week. The victim reported to police that several pieces of jewelry was taken from her apartment sometime after Christmas. Police logged a report and turned it over to the detectives for further. To the piece of human refuse who perpetrated this crime against one of our senior citizens, I hope this brings you nothing but pain, misery and suffering. Your are a low life at best.

How about some arrests ??.

A motorist flagged down Officer Julio Rossi and alerted him to an erratic driver on the 11th. Officer Rossi began to canvas the area when he was almost struck by the suspects vehicle. Rossi effected a traffic stop and shortly afterward, placed the vehicles operator under arrest. He was charged with DWI and a host of other driving charges. Hold on it gets better. The defendant, a Loja Robinson of Danbury was later charged with a number of felonies, one being possession of a forged instrument. He was remanded to the county jail and has appeared in Rye City Court to answer the slew of charges. Good heads up work by Officer Rossi, assisted by Officer Mike Anfuso.

Officer Rossi again:

While on patrol on the 20th, Officer Rossi effected a traffic stop on Boston Post Rd. Upon speaking to driver, Officer Rossi ascertained that the vehicles registration was suspended. The driver, a Danny Ceja of Portchester, was placed under arrest and processed at Rye HQ.

Officer Mike Anfuso bagged another one last week. Anfuso arrested and processed a Mr. Edgar Tellez for operating a motor vehicle while suspended. Oh, I'm sorry, I mean "allegedly" operating a motor vehicle while suspended. The defendant was processed and will have a date with the judge.

Onward.....

Unfortunately for Mr. Jorge Mora of Greenwich, Officers Dan Cammacho and Jason Washco were in the vicinity of Midland Avenue by the Marriott on the 16th. They stopped Mr. Mora for "alleged" traffic violations and found him to be suspended. You know the drill, jail, bail, (100.00 bucks) date with the judge, bada-bing, bada-boom.

Alvin Norris of Mount Vernon will be spending some time with the judge after he was arrested by Officer Jeffery Golanec on the 16th. Officer Golanec stopped the defendant and found that his license and registration were both suspended. Need I go further ?...

A Rye woman was arrested by Rye Detectives on the 12th. Tracey Keegan was charged with grand larceny 4th, forgery 2nd, possession of stolen property 4th and burglary 3rd. The defendant was arraigned in Rye Court and remanded to the county jail. Good work by the Rye Detectives.

A quick one. A resident recently asked me to point out that even though much of the inland waters of LI Sound have frozen over, it is NOT safe to walk on the ice. Parents, make sure your children know and understand this. The Ice is NOT safe to walk on.

Officer Cancel:

While on patrol PO Cancel stopped a motorist on Play land Parkway for the usual. Upon speaking to the defendant, Cancel detected an odor of marijuana in the car and an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Upon further investigation, PO Cancel arrested the defendant, a Antonino Altamirano and charged him with DWI, possession of marijuana and other driving charges. He had to pony up 250.00 bucks bail to get out. He has upcoming court dates.

Juan Mogollon of Greenwich will be doing some explaining in Rye City Court. He was stopped by Officer Mike Kenny and found to be operating while revoked. Jail, 100.00 bucks bail and an invitation to the judges dance.

That's all there is, there is no more. lets all work together to make Rye a safe place to live and work. Keep an eye out for one another and report any suspicious activity you see to the Rye Police. So, for Police Commissioner William R. Connnors and the City of Rye Police Department, this Gary l. Olivier saying, take care, be safe and we'll see you next time........
