Board of Appeals

This seven member board hears zoning and building permit cases on appeal from the Planning Commission, Architectural Board of Review or the Building Inspector. They interpret ordinances and may grant exceptions where regulations create hardship.

Meets 3rd Thursday each month at City Hall @ 7:30 p.m. (see Consolidated Schedule)

Board of Architectural Review

This seven member board examines building plans of developers and individuals to achieve appropriate exterior design and location of buildings. They are also responsible for approving all signs.

Meets 1st & 3rd Monday each month at City Hall @ 8:00 p.m. (see Consolidated Schedule)

Board of Assessment Review

This five member board has knowledge of property values in the City and has the powers and duties granted by the Real Property Tax Law, and other such powers and duties as prescribed by the Council. They are required to meet once per year for ‘Grievance Day’ to hear Real Property assessment complaints.

Meets for ‘Grievance Day’ on 3rd Tuesday in June, and schedules other meetings as needed.

Board of Ethics

This five member board consists of the City Manager, Corporation Counsel, and three members of the public. They render advisory opinions on specific situations to officers and employees of the City with respect to General Municipal Law and the City’s Code of Ethics.

Meets as needed.


Boat Basin Commission

This five member commission is elected by the membership and appointed by the City Council. It makes recommendations and adopts rules and regulations subject to the approval of the City Manager, reviews annual budget estimates, membership categories, and proposed fee schedules prior to submission to the City Council.

Meets every other month on the 3rd Thursday at City Hall @ 7:30 p.m.

Rye Cable Television Committee

This committee consists of between seven and nine members who assist the City Council and City staff in overseeing the City of Rye’s educational and public access channels, promoting public use of the cable television system, and assisting the City staff with rules and policies involving public access.

Meets monthly at Rye High School TV Studio @ 7:15 p.m.

Commission on Human Rights

A commission of not more than nine members who’s general duties include fostering mutual respect and understanding among all groups in the community.

Meets 4th Thursday each month at City Hall @ 7:30 p.m.


Conservation Commission/Advisory Council

This commission has between six and nine members who guide the regulation, use, improvement, and maintenance of conservation facilities and programs.

Meets 1st Thursday each month at Nature Center @ 7:30 p.m.


Finance Committee

This committee has seven members who guide the financial and investment policies and act as advisors to the City Council on financial matters.

Meets 3rd Tuesday each month at City Hall @ 7:00 p.m.


Landmarks Advisory Committee

This committee consists of eight members, five of whom must be City residents, and must include at least one architect or architectural historian, one member of the Rye Historical Society, and one member of the local Real Estate Board. They are empowered to investigate, document, and make recommendations to the City Council for the designation and preservation of historic districts and Protected Sites and Structures.

Meets 4th Wednesday each month at City Hall @ 8:00 p.m.


Master Plan Task Force

This task force has been assembled to update the 1985 City of Rye Master Plan. To accomplish this they will contact various government, community, land use and real estate organizations throughout the City and assemble information and data which can be used to re-shape the Master Plan and future land use and development.

Planning Commission

This seven member commission, including one Council Member, is an advisory arm of the Council. They study and make recommendations to the Council for long-range planning as well as specific developmental and ongoing questions. It reviews site development plans and uses, and is responsible for approving all property subdivisions.

Meets 2nd & 4th Tuesday each month at City Hall @ 7:00 p.m. (see Consolidated Schedule)

Recreation Commission

This nine member commission is advisory to the City Council and is responsible for planning recreation facilities, programs, and budgets in consultation with the Superintendent of Recreation.

Meets 2nd Wednesday each month at Damiano Center @ 7:30 p.m.

Rye Beautification Advisory Committee

This thirteen member committee will provide advise and opportunity for collaborative projects to ensure the preservation of the beauty and aesthetic character of the community.

Rye Golf Club Commission

This nine member commission is elected by the membership and appointed by the City Council. It makes recommendations and adopts rules and regulations subject to the approval of the City Manager, reviews annual budget estimates, membership categories and proposed fee schedules prior to submission to the City Council.

Meets 3rd Wednesday each month at the Rye Golf Club Member Lounge @ 7:00 p.m.

Playland Advisory Committee

This nine member committee advises the City Council on issues relating to the operation and management of Playland Amusement Park as they affect the City of Rye.

Rye Senior Advocacy Committee

This eight member committee offers information, guidance, and assistance for services on an as needed basis.

Meets 3rd Thursday each month at City Hall @ 8:30 a.m.


Rye Town Park Commission

This six member commission consists of the Supervisor of Rye Town and an appointee, the Mayor of Rye City and an appointee, and the Mayors of Rye Brook and Port Chester. The Commission establishes policies and procedures, and discusses issues facing Rye Town Park.

Meets monthly at Rye Town offices or City Hall.


Traffic and Transportation Committee

This committee may consist of seven to nine City residents. The purpose of the Committee is to advise the City Council and the City Staff on ways to improve traffic safety and transportation systems throughout the community. It is also their mission to educate the public about traffic and pedestrian safety.

Meets 2nd Thursday each month at City Hall @ 7:30 p.m.


Youth Advisory Committee

This fifteen member committee makes recommendations on City Council agenda items or other matters affecting youth in the community and seeks and recommends ways to interest and involve youth in local government.
