"Simultaneous Use Rules"
 For Leaf Blowers In Effect Until September 30th


The Policy
To minimize noise created by lawn maintenance equipment powered by internal combustion engines.  In addition to these restrictions operators should exercise courtesy and take reasonable steps to minimize noise creation at all times.
 

Simultaneous Use Rule
Leaf blowers powered by internal combustion engines shall not be operated simultaneously on the same lot with any other type of machine-powered lawn equipment.  Two or more power or leaf blowers shall not be operated simultaneously except in R-1 residence districts as indicated in the City of Rye Zoning Map.
 

Dates of Rule:  June 1 - September 30 each year

Exceptions:  The rule shall not apply to the following entities: municipal, school district, religious institutions, membership club, golf course, hospital, and retirement communities except that these entities shall minimize any power blower use to the maximum extent practicable in proximity to residences.

 The following Hours for Operation of Lawn Equipment, including Leaf Blowers, is in effect 12 months a year!

 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. Weekdays

 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. Weekends and Holidays

 Also Prohibited
The use of power or leaf blowers to move leaves or yard debris to city streets, public property, storm drains, or abutting lots is prohibited at all times.

  Additional Guidelines
Leaf blowers shall be operated at a throttle speed no greater than the minimum practical and appropriate for accomplishing a necessary task.

 The use of leaf blowers shall be limited to the clearing of identifiable debris.  Blowers should not be used where there is no debris.

The unnecessary blowing of dust is discouraged.  Dusty areas should be dampened, cleared with the use of special equipment such as mister attachments, or cleared by alternative means.
