Welcome ladies and gentlemen to Rye Police News. This is a news and
information program brought to you by Police Commissioner William R.
Connors and the City of Rye Police Department. These are the news and
information stories leading up to the 21st of February. I'm your host,
Officer Gary L. Olivier. Our first story is as follows:
A Port Chester man was arrested after he allegedly tried to return a can of baby formula for cash at the Rye CVS. Warren VanNorden fled the store after an argument ensued over the returning of the item. Police Officer Joe Cancel responded to the area and encountered the suspect on Boston Post Road. Upon interviewing the suspect, Cancel arrested him for possessing two hypodermic needles and 4 decks of heroin. Drug paraphernalia was also recovered. The suspect was placed under arrest and processed at Rye HQ. Back to Top A former Rye man was arrested by patrol units on the 19th. William Morton was arrested in the parking lot of Pathmark after being stopped by Officer Robert Vogel. A warrant for burglary charges out of Rye City had been issued for Morton's arrest. He was taken to Rye HQ for processing. Other stolen items were allegedly in Morton's possession at the time of his arrest. After appearing in court he was remanded to the Westchester County jail. Vogel's arrest of the suspect will help detectives close out other cases. Good job by Officer Vogel. While on patrol on the 10th, Officer Susan Rigano stopped a Rye man for alleged traffic violations on Theall Road. Upon speaking to the motorist, Officer Rigano noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. after further investigation the motorist, a James Perkinpine, was placed under arrest and processed at Rye HQ. Perkinpine was charged with DWI and several other driving charges and has up coming court dates. A White plains man was also arrested for DWI last week. Roger Casaverde was stopped for alleged traffic violations on Purdy Ave. by Officer Jeff Golanec. Upon speaking to the defendant, Officer Golanec noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. After further investigation the defendant was placed under arrest and processed at Rye HQ. A Mount Vernon man has some explaining in not only Rye Court, but a NYC court too. Frankie Phelps was arrested by Officer John Hannah after he was stopped for alleged traffic violations. Upon speaking to Phelps, Officer Hannah ascertained that his license had 1 current suspension and 1 revocation. He was placed under arrest and transported to Rye HQ for processing. Upon completion of the arrest processing, the defendant was turned over to Detectives McHugh and Vasquez of the NYPD warrant squad who took him into custody. The warrant out of NYC was for dangerous drugs. Good heads up work by Officer Hannah on this one. Back to Top A vehicle pursuit took Rye Officers to Greenwich on the 19th. Officer Mike Olsen attempted to pull a vehicle over on Peck Avenue. Upon seeing Olsen, the vehicle's driver fled onto I/95 north. Olsen chased the car to exit 3 in Greenwich where the operator fled the scene on foot into a wooded area. Greenwich PD responded to the scene and assisted in searching for the driver. Subsequent investigation reveled the location of several chop shops in the Bronx NY and also to the recovery of possibly 3 stolen vehicles. Officer Golanec was hotter than a firecracker last week. While on patrol in the vicinity of Midland Avenue and I/95 he stopped a motorist for (you guessed it) alleged traffic violations. Upon speaking to the defendant, Golanec ascertained that his license to drive was suspended in NY. Further investigation revealed an outstanding warrant out of Havastraw for the subject. He was placed under arrest and transported to Rye HQ for processing. Carlos Sotomayor of Havastraw was charged with the suspended license, DWI and the outstanding warrant. He posted 100.00 bail and was held for the Rockland County Sheriffs Department who picked him up on the warrant charges. Lets get away from the arrests for a while: A house keeper working at a Chester Drive home reported a burglary to police on the 12th. The residence had been entered by the perpetrator smashing a window. Subsequent investigation led to an arrest in the case. Back to Top A Purchase Street resident reported what appeared to be an attempted break-in at his commercial building on the 18th. Officer Mike Anfuso and the Rye Detectives responded to the scene and after a preliminary investigation was conducted , the officers located a suspect. The suspect furnished the detectives with a statement regarding the incident. The building owner elected to pursue the matter in ways other than arrest. The suspect was later turned over to Harrison PD for further investigation for a burglary that occurred in their jurisdiction. Good heads up work by Officer Anfuso and the Rye Detectives. A Forest Avenue resident required police assistance on the 12th. A package had been sent through UPS to the home was opened by the complainant and he found it to contain a plastic PVC pipe with wires sticking out of one end. Police units responded to the home and notified county PDs bomb squad. The bomb squad arrived and upon further investigation by them, it was determined that the device was not explosive. The package was taken into evidence and an investigation is being conducted. A contractor working on Milton Road reported to police that an unknown creep or creeps stole a number of construction items from his job site. Copper pipe, a kerosene heater and a chain vise totaling 1200.00 where stolen sometime overnight on the 15th. Patrol units logged the report and will follow up on the case. Another contractor was the victim of a burglary on the 19th. The contractor working on a job site on Martin Road reported to police that approx. $15000.00 in contractors tools and supplies where stolen after the low lives forced there way into the building. Patrol units logged the report and will give the area extra patrol as time and manpower allow. Back to Top A Grace Church resident was the victim of a larceny from his 2002 Ford Explorer on the 13th. An unknown person or persons broke into the vehicle and removed an 8 X 5 TV screen designed for the back seat passengers to watch. The set is valued at 1400.00. A Bronx resident who's car had been towed to a local service station following an accident, reported to police that her CD player and CDs were stolen while the car was at the station. The theft occurred at Willy's service on Theodore Fremd Avenue sometime overnight on the eighth. the CD and CDs where valued at 300.00. A Quick F/Y/I. We've been receiving a number of reports involving credit card fraud. Remember to check over your credit card statements carefully and report any suspicious activity you find on them to the police. A Mead Place resident was treated to rotten surprise on the 9th. The fender and left side mirror of her vehicle was damaged by an unknown knobhead or knobheads sometime overnight. A red 3 speed bike with 2 baskets was taken from the store by an unknown creep or creeps. The bike was out front of the business when the theft occurred. Patrol units logged the report and the post 1 man has been giving the area extra patrol as time and manpower allows. Rye Police responded to the area of 964 Boston Post Road on the 15th. A white male operating a dark colored sedan attempted to coax the a 12 year old female into his car at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Patrol units and detectives responded to the area which was searched to no avail. Good job by the 12 year old who immediately removed herself from the area and notified an adult and police. The investigation remains open. How about some more arrests ?? A Stamford man has some explaining to do in Rye City Court. Neftali Rodriquez was arrested after being stopped by Officer Jeff Golanec on Midland Avenue on the 10th. Upon speaking to the subject, Officer Golanec ascertained that the man had been drinking. Subsequent field tests led to his arrest. Rodriquez was charged with traffic violations and DWI. He has upcoming court dates. A suspended registration led to the arrest of a Harrison man on the 9th. Alberto Amigon was arrested by Officer Robert Vogel after he was stopped for alleged traffic violations. The suspects vehicle was impounded and he was transported to Rye HQ for arrest processing. He too has upcoming court dates. Back to Top While on patrol on Theodore Fremd Avenue Officer Mike Anfuso stopped a motorist for ---(Everybody) "Alleged traffic violations". Upon speaking to the subject, Officer Anfuso ascertained that the operators privilege to drive in NY was suspended. Starky Adames of Port Chester was placed under arrest and processed at Rye HQ. He has a date with the judge !!. Lets go over to the Boston Post Road and Playland Parkway area. (Lets walk over so we don't get stopped for alleged traffic violations !!). While on patrol Officer John Hannah stopped a motorist for alleged traffic violations. A check of of the subjects drivers license indicated 6 outstanding suspensions. George Hnatiw was arrested and processed at Rye HQ. He posted 100.00 bail and has upcoming court dates. Mike Anfuso. Theodore Fremd Avenue on the 12th. Mike stops a Paul Guarneri of Throggs Neck for alleged traffic violations. Need I say more ?? Arrested, processed, date with the judge.... Mike Anfuso again. Stops a Mr. Mack Reed on Peck Avenue for.. (You know what) Subsequent check of the subjects license reveled it was suspended. Mr. Reed was arrested, brought to HQ and processed. He too will visit the Rye NY Court room. Back to Top A Greenwich Ct man was given a tour of the Rye Police Departments booking area on the 17th. Edgar Morocho was stopped by Officer Mike Kenny for alleged traffic violations on Peck Avenue. Upon speaking to the subject, Office Kenny ascertained that his license was suspended. Lets all do the drill together.. Jail, Bail, date with the judge, Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom, too bad so sad bye-bye, that's the way it goes... Last one.. A Stamford CT man was arrested by Officer Jeffery Golanec on the 18th. Steven Santiago was stopped on Midland Avenue. Subsequent conversation with the defendant led Officer Golanec to believe he was driving while intoxicated. After conducting field tests the subject was placed under arrest and transported to Rye HQ for Processing. The defendant posted bail and was released pending future court dates. All kidding aside folks, it is this type of activity by officers that you hear of each week on this program, that keep this city safe. There is no way of knowing how many serious crimes get deterred by these active and highly visible officers. You know what ?, we owe them a lot. that's the truth. So for now, that's all there is, there is no more. Lets all work together to make Rye a safe place to live and work.
